The article contextualizes a semiotics of the signs presented in the panel Cantos de Esquina (2019) by contemporary artist Maxwell Alexandre. The artist in question addresses the representation of the black population. The panel is understood as a non-verbal text exposed to be read by the observer, whose reading can be at three levels: comprehensive, analytical and interpretive. During the reception process, the interpretant constructs meanings conditioned by the mental ones he has, as well as by the performance in the interpretive act.
