URBAN LANDSCAPES IN TRANSFORMATION
THE INTERSECTION BETWEEN ART AND SOCIAL IDENTITY IN THE QUINTA DO MOCHO NEIGHBORHOOD

This study analyzes the intersection between art and social identity in the Quinta do Mocho neighborhood in Lisbon, where the transformation of urban landscapes reflects issues of social vulnerability. The objective is to understand how art, particularly graffiti, impacts residents' identity and promotes social change. The methodology included a literature review and observations of artistic interventions in the community. The results demonstrate that art not only beautifies the environment but also acts as an agent of transformation, enhancing residents' self-esteem and challenging stigmas. However, the narratives collected indicate inadequate institutional support and a lack of infrastructure investment, which compromises the effectiveness of artistic initiatives. The study emphasizes the importance of active citizen participation and the need for effective dialogue with the government to create a more just and inclusive urban space that addresses the community's demands.
