Abstract

In 2020, New Yorker Louise Glück received the Nobel Prize for Literature and aroused the interest of Brazilian publishing. As a result, in 2021 Companhia das Letras published Poemas 2006-2014, which brings together the three most recent books by the North American poet: Averno, Uma Vida no Interior and Noite Fiel e Virtuosa. Glück's contemporaneity is expressed in the gaze directed at the daily life of common people, recurrently portraying the customs of modern life. There is also a domain of nature that assumes a prominent position in the lives of the characters in a kind of symbiosis in which it is not possible to specify where one ends and the other begins. Louise Glück manages to touch important issues to the human existence with the sensitivity that poetry allows. Her work is an invitation to see the world and the relationships we establish with it, in it and from it, with curious and imaginative eyes. Eyes that can perceive the evident and the hidden, the light and the shadows. Who distrust the obvious, the explicit. Who see others and for others.
