LENDAS URBANAS NA ESCOLA

RELATO DE UMA EXPERIÊNCIA EXTENSIONISTA DE VALORIZAÇÃO DA CULTURA POPULAR

Abstract

This article reports on the experience of the extension project “Urban Legends: popular culture in the classroom”, developed in partnership between the University of the Extreme South of Santa Catarina (Unesc) and the Princesa Isabel Primary School, located in Morro da Fumaça (SC). The initiative sought to include regional popular culture in the school context, promoting actions to investigate, value and disseminate urban and traditional legends, with a view to strengthening the students' cultural identity. The activities were conducted using participatory methodologies, involving interviews with the community, artistic creation workshops, shadow theater and the making of characters for the revitalization of the Boi de Mamão folguedo. The work demonstrated the importance of linking teaching, research and extension to enhance student protagonism and promote a culturally situated education that recognizes and values local knowledge. It also highlighted the role of urban legends as devices for preservation and social transformation, capable of stimulating critical and creative reflection. The project has consolidated itself as an innovative pedagogical practice, contributing to citizen education and strengthening the links between the school, the university and the community.
