CITY DRAWINGS AND THE TOSCO AESTHETIC: AN INTRIGUING OPEN-SKY COLLECTION

This paper investigates how an aesthetic based on the adjective "tosco" can be found in drawings made on walls and other locations within urban landscapes, using as a basis digital collections from the pages Handpainted Brazil and Mônicas deformadas em muros de escolinha (Deformed Monicas on scholar walls). Alongside this, the paper seeks to understand how the tosco aesthetic relates to the environment in which it appears, citing the subjective reactions of passersby in urban areas. Finally, the text also discusses the potential for subversion and the construction of aesthetic experiences contained in the act of presenting tosco drawings as a visual collection.
